Drinking Water Pipes

The condition of your drinking water pipes determines whether the water delivered to your kitchen is safe and flowing efficiently. Nothing is more important than having safe drinking water for you and your family. A growing number of homeowners are realizing the problems with drinking water due to old, damaged pipes in their homes. Without making the necessary repairs or replacements to the outdated systems, affected homes will lose access to potable water.

Signs of Damaged Drinking Water Pipes

Over time, pipes get corroded and rusted, leading to holes and the introduction of contaminants into the water. Copper pipes leave blue-green stains, especially first thing in the morning. Pipes made from galvanized iron or steel give off a rusty red color. One sign of corrosion is drinking water that is discolored or leaves stains in the sink, toilet tank, or bathtub. You might notice an odd taste to the water or it might not flow into your home as quickly as it once did. When corrosion builds up in the pipes, it creates a blockage that prevents water from coming in as quickly. A slow flow can also indicate a leak.

Portable Water Solutions

Potable water pipes are those that deliver water that is safe to drink. In the past, the only solution was to replace the drinking water pipes by digging up the old pipes and replacing them with new ones. Not only is this an expensive and obtrusive method, it often involves digging up driveways, your landscaping, and even the city sidewalks and/or roads.

Today, potable water technologies offer a more cost-effective method of repairing damaged pipes without the need to dig. If the existing pipe is in good enough condition and meets the requirements for diameter and strength, pipelining is a good option. During this process, spray-on epoxy is applied throughout the water line. Once the epoxy cures, it leaves a new pipe, or pipe lining, inside the old one.

Epoxy pipe lining restores water flow and prevents corrosion from developing in the future. While it prevents pinholes from forming that let water out, it also keeps contaminants like lead and bacteria from getting inside.

Epoxy pipe lining is a convenient way to create potable water pipes even when your existing drinking water pipes are hard to get to. You don’t have to worry about new leaks for many years to come. To learn more about potable water solutions, contact San Diego Plumbing and Pipelining today. We offer experienced, 24/7 service for your convenience.
